What can I say? This dress is all its hyped up to be! I whipped this up pretty quickly in some Ponte knit I bought at spotlight of all places.

Heading into my third  aussie summer I knew this had to be short sleeves. I wasn't sure on the neck binding and so decided to make some facing so that I could get a nice clean finish and it worked. This fabric i used for this dress is quite heavy and so might be better suited to warm spring days than summer. Aussie springs may as well be summer to  Scot tho!!

Those who know me and my sewing habits, actually let's be honest. .. Deepti (@deeptisewsforsanity) will notice that I have aligned my stripes, cos really you have to don't you? But also I feel like I have become somewhat obsessed with alignment. Perhaps this is where my day job is affecting my sewing....or not...

Have worn this dress a few times now and feel as though I'm reaching for it as soon as it comes off the washing line. I'm sure there will be other Cocos to add the wardrobe!

This wee skirt was something that was needed in my wardrobe! Being perfect for work I knew it would be something that being sewn up I would miss when it was in the washing basket.

The fabric is from a local Salvos in Perth for $2!! When I found it I knew it would be perfect for a skirt, so wben I came across Delphine I knew this fabric was to turn into this. The skirt is lined with some lovely silk mix that I purchased from Berwick St in Soho, London. The colour of the lining is well matched with the main fabric but I also love that I've coordinated a thrifty find with something that is extremely luxurious. 

i am far more advanced with knitting than I am sewing and so Tilly's book (link) is perfectly suited to what i've been looking for in dressmaking. It goes beyond the basics and isn't full of tote bags and cushion covers like so many other beginner dressmaking books. 

A growing tower of makes

Making things, scouring crafty blogs and instagram has become a way of life for me. I am constantly getting excited about lovely things that are being made by people from all over the world. 

The pile of makes has really started to gain some height in recent weeks as well as my enthusiasm for rushing home from work and squeezing in some time to get on with making some things. (I don't actually keep a big pile of makes all stashed this way, just so you know, i just did a whip round and scooped everything up in an attempt to bully myself into writing this post)

For such a long time I've been stuck this way and not actually writing up anything myself, writing is not a strength of mine. I keep thinking that it will be silly, cringey to write anything myself....and as i'm typing I still really do feel that. I do know that I love reading other people's blogs - to the point of obsession!! I get so much out of them and feel like perhaps this is the next step for me. In fact, discovering blogs has taught me waaaaay more than any craft magazine ever could. To top this off I'm sure that there are things I will learn about this process that I haven't even considered yet so here goes!!

2015 is likely to hold a huge longlist of makes and as tempting as it is to write a big list and stick to it, I know that won't happen, as soon as a shiny new pattern is released i'm immediately distracted and straight on to it. The new issue of Seamwork that has just been released being the perfect example of distraction!
